  • No. It's the mattress that can become infested. That's the only place as the the bugs feed on the sleeping people during the night. I've read that hotels have some trouble with this. There are people who will not even bring their luggage into the house when they arrive home from a trip that included hotel stays. The advice is to leave the luggage outside and take all clothing (soiled and not) to the laundry then carefully inspect the luggage and leave it outside or in a garage for several days before bringing it into the house. This problem seems to be on the rise. The bugs do not destroy furniture. I can't image why there would be liability on the landlord's part unless perhaps you rented a furnished apartment including the mattress. In that case he would have to take the steps to get rid of the bugs which is a different process than general bug spraying.
