Only a mixture of two or gases that chemically combine and in doing so release sufficient heat will ignite. One of the gasses could be oxygen from the air. Carbon dioxide will not ignite - it is the product of completely burnt carbon, so it won't burn any more. Hence it is used in fire extinguishers. However, the right mixture of the flammable gas, hydrogen, and oxygen will explode.
