amp=amplifier. it boosts the signal coming from your radio/stereo enough to drive the speakers.

You're reading If I buy one of these big ol' Subwoofer setups for the boot of my car, does it need an 'amp' or do i just plug it in (wire it up) and stick it in the radio? Is it more complex than i think - can anybody explain it please? Also, what does an 'amp' do?
