Help answer this question below.

My springer spaniel is whimpering when he gets up is weak in his hind legs. this seams to happen when he has been 4 a walk so we rest him for a day then he will be fine. but this happened a few weeks ago too. any ideas what problem could be?

    This could be something as simple as he has pulled a muscle and it will take time to heal...

    OR

    It could be something life threatening such as his Liver or Kidneys starting to SHUT DOWN...

    There is NO WAY for anyone here to be able to give you an accurate or reasonable diagnoses, when we can not see your dog, or check any particular part out, or run any tests.

    I will say that this is abnormal enough that I would encourage you to get this dog to a Vet...pretty quickly and let them check it out...something is not right here.

    You really need to find out what the problem is, before you can make an informed decision as to what you may or may not be able to afford to do about it.

    Remember, just because your dog isn't "screaming in agony" does not mean that the dog is not IN PAIN.

    Animals are masterful at hiding pain that would floor you or me.....

    As in most of the medium to large breeds, Canine Hip Dysplasia can affect Springers. CHD is inherited through a combination of multiple genes. Puppies from two certified dogs can still have hip problems. To find out more, check the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. PennHip tests are another way of checking for the problem. Some Springer breeders and owners are beginning to check for elbow dysplasia as well.
