  • I found that asking my parents first was the easy start. I also contacted my aunty - who had been using the internet, finding many results we headed to the cemetary for dates of deaths. It is a hard process but it pays off.
  • I would try the internet. There are some really great search engines that you can get to through google or yahoo.
  • The Library where your parents and other family is from. I was at my local library one day and found a book on my family from many years ago. I was so suprised I live in a pretty large town and never thought I would find something like it.
  • Believe it or not, the Mormon geneology database is the largest in the world and is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. I can't seem to find the correct website however for this institution but I will keep looking. Meanwhile, I did find a few other websites that offer these types of search engines and databases, it's the best I can do for now, I hope it helps you on your quest. http://www.onegreatfamily.com/Home.aspx http://www.familysearch.org/
  • archives.
  • Always start with yourself, then your parents, then proceed backwards from what you have thus learned. Trace the documents... births, deaths, marriages, census records, etc. You'll be surpsised how much progress you can make.
  • YOu start with yourself, then gather any records you have on your parents and grandparents. There are often online indexes of Births Deaths and Marriages, from which you can order certificates to find out further information. When you get beyond the local records, you will find many great sites online that will help eg familysearch.org (the Mormon website that has a lot of genealogical stuff collected by Mormons; it should be taken with care. Not everything is verified, but it is a good site) For British records Free BMD, FreeCen and FreeReg are great For world records try Ancestry.com and Rootsweb (especially for their messageboards. YOu can find others researching the same families sometimes) Just take it slowly. Verify everything generation by generation and see how far it goes. If you need any help, give me an email and I'll see if I can.
