  • I vote for cult!
  • It is a religion. The respectable part is matter of opinion.
  • crazy cult but there not a bad as the sciantoligists lol
  • Crazy cult
  • All religions started out as cults, and are arguably still cults. It is only when they get prosperous and well attended that they become respected cults. The line is a fine one.
  • Crazy Cult. But not nearly as crazy as the insane asylum that is the Church of scientology
  • Not as crazy as some, but... . ... then again anything being a "respectable religion" is a big question in itself. . They all teach crazy stuff and to a greater or lesser degree have cult like behaviors.
  • All religions are cults, with varying levels of craziness.
  • SECULAR Cult Exit Counselors have identified Mormonism as a Mind Control Cult based on the group's behavior ALONE. Given that, the "religion" part of the equation is largely irrelevant. http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=80003&catid=532 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=80001&catid=532 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=79855&catid=532 http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=522BD568308C0458&playnext=1 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=76264&catid=532
  • Judging by behavior and results, a respectable religion.
  • crazy cult full of douchebags and child predators.
  • I think their pretty silly basing their religion on a guy that read tablets out of a hat, lol just kidding, they are as people go generally good people, but their prophet is about as silly as silly gets. If you ask me he looked around and seen alot of women he wanted to get in bed with and said you know if i made up a new religion i could bed all these women, but heck who knows. A HAT LOL. he had something pretty cool in that hat of his but i am not sure what it was :)
  • Ever seen that SouthPark episode? Dum, dum, dum, dum.
  • Respectable Cult. This is what always gets me... Definition of a Religion: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith Definition of a Cult: a system of religious beliefs and ritual Yes, by definition, they are a cult. So are all religions.
  • All organized religions are crazy cults full of people who are one or all of these things; people who would rather be told what to think than think themselves, people who are afraid of hell, people who are naturally subservient, people who have limited vision or scientific curiosity, people looking for some group to belong to because they are too weak to exist without a flock, people who need to feel somehow superior to others, people with weak moral compasses and so on.
  • A crazy cult most definitely. The Mormons are fantastic at brainwashing, yet have difficulty with washing those huge magical undergarments that stop sexual activity. Lunacy!
  • Crazy cult, but no different from any other organised religion. They are all cults, some are just bigger.
  • Just gullible.
  • They certainly have a well polished outer shell... http://www.exmormon.org/
  • they are atheists on steroids.
  • Depends who you talk to. Every leader of any church tell their members we are the one and only and everyone else is wrong. So the math says there are 37,999 religions are false. Take a pick believe what you want. Tell you this I'm not about to give any church 10% of my money to make someone rich.
  • There's no such thing as a respectable religion, they're all crazy cults.
  • Who would Jesus DR?
  • I suppose it all depends on who you ask. As far as I am concerned, any man/woman can say what ever they want about another religion. But the opinion that really matters is what the Lord has to say. And according to those who decided what constitutes a "Cult", The original Church organized by Jesus Christ while he was on earth, would qualify as a "Cult" as well. So as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I would say we are in good company. It is those of you who do not claim to be a Cult that need to worry! ...Later
  • I have not read all of the answers, and I apologize for not doing so. My grandmother was mormon, and my mother and her sisters were baptized into the religion. I am a confirmed lutheran, but I guess I have certain opinions about pretty much all genres of religion, there are certain things I am ok with and there is ALOT I disagree with. I should be completely honest and say that organized religion is a cause for a lot of trouble, and I don't say that to hurt people or offend, I do believe there is a higher being, and I call them God. If people disagree that is fine. I am basically saying to each their own and I believe what I believe and I do not judge others whether I agree or not. I am friends with people that I consider fanatic, but I just don't bring it up. Thanks.
  • A little from column A, a little from column B
  • If I knew what a "respecatable religion" was I would tell you. I'm assuming that a "respect-cat-table" religion is one that respects cats so much that they put them on tables and worship them. And I would think that any religion that respects cats on tables is not only most certainly a cult but downright weird! ;-)
  • CULT!!!!
  • Crazy cult like all the others religions but I must admit this one are pretty crazy!
  • The answer is too simple for the unintelligent to comprehend. the LDS faith uses the Bible and the Book of Mormon together as we all should do, the history of the whole world, not only 1/2 of it is contained in both books. Simply put, the Bible is a history book of the old world and the book of Mormon is a history book of the Americas. If someone still believes that there was not an advanced civilization here in the Americas that kept a record of there world both spiritual and otherwise, then they should be careful not to fall off there FLAT world. I was raised Assembly of God, Catholic and Southern Baptist and I can comprehend simple truths. Read "America before Christ" or better yet, try reading the "Book of Mormon"... Mormon was a Prophet in the Americas in case ya wanted to know.
  • Just a suggestion. CS Lewis was an Atheist. He was far brighter than I and, I believe, than anyone I see commenting on here. Certainly less confused. Try reading The Case For Christianity, by Lewis. Amazon has it.
  • Neither. Mormonism is neither a respectable religion or a crazy cult. Don't get me wrong, it is a cult. It is the most blasphemes cult ever created by Satan. It employs... Mind control technique Guilt financial burdens physical burdens strains on family emotional punishment etc etc etc There is nothing cray about Mormonism, it is methodical and well orchestrated. That is why the LDS church is one of the wealthiest organizations in America. Calling this horrific group crazy is akin to calling Amway a great business opportunity.
  • I was under the impression that people could hold whatever religious beliefs they choose without being given crap for it or asked to justify it. Isn't that a principle that America was founded on?
  • It seems to produce respectable people, if we all adopted some of the beleifs the world would be a better place. I say respectable religion.
