A missionary can do just about anything that he wants to. However, there are many things that he should not do. He should not watch TV nor should he go to movies unless he gets approval from his mission president. (I don't think that my mission president ever gave approval for us to see any movie that was released during my mission.) Missionaries should not go swimming if they can help it. Missionaries should not get involved in romantic relationships with people they meet in the field while they are serving. (After they are released is fine, but not while they are serving.) Missionaries should not leave their proselyting areas with out permission from someone further up the chain of command. That is about all that I can think of other than the standard rules of behavior that all LDS members are supposed to follow. ****************** "Alatea: Chain of command? You forgot they cannot call home even though they are just teenagers." Ok, I neglected to mention that they may only call home twice a year. However, your characterization of them as teenagers is intentionally misleading. All missionaries are adults as you very well know. The Elders must be at least 19 years old before they may start their missions. This means that the vast majority of them have been out of High School for at least a year. Many have a year of college under their belts as well. In other words, they are at the age where they are starting to leave home anyway. They are not the helpless youths you are trying to portray them as and, having severed a mission myself, I can tell you they would be offended by your patronizing attitude toward them.
