  • The truth is so blissfull.
  • I completely understand where you're coming from. At the same time, I don't think there's anything wrong with someone making a profit when what they do can help so many. Of course, there ARE exceptions to that train of thought. Doctors who charge exhorbitant fees, attornies taking 1/3 of a monetary win, etc. In fact, most corporations fall into that category as well. It doesn't bother me that someone makes millions. What bothers me is when they don't pay it forward. It defeats the purpose of making donations if you get to write it off on your taxes. What do you think, BD? +5
  • Michael Moore is one of the biggest hypocrites and con artists in this country. He hasn't matched Oliver Stone, yet, but he certainly has ambitions....
  • Capitalism works because it forces you to act in your own best interests. It is bad because you can manipulate markets for your benefit while ruining others. That's what happens when capitalism is unregulated. Unregulated capitalism is the root of every great depression. In fact lack of regulations guarantees the boom and bust cycles. True, the peaks are spectacular but the depressions cause extreme misery for no good reason. Notice that when we followed rules laid down after the last depression, the economy did extremely well. When the right started decreasing the progressive tax rates and deregulation markets and financial institutions, we had a great peak and are now on the decline. What the de-regulators fail to understand is that there is only a finite amount of growth that is sustainable. When you ignore the effects of your actions have on other people and markets, ruin follows. Unfortunately it is almost never that the people that cause the depression, suffer from it. That is why there is always a great push to deregulate or schemes to get around the regulations. Since our leaders are usually involved in these actions, there is seldom real punishment. Maybe the guy doesn't get re-elected so he retires to his million dollar mansion and becomes a lobbyist. We need real laws, real regulation, and real punishment for the perpetrators of the crisis. Further, Michael Moore serves an important function in pointing out the ridiculousness of parts of society. He may make a good deal of money but documentary producers are not high earners in the movie market. The fact that he makes money at all shows that people thirst for answers for situations that make no sense and for which they are suffering.
  • Capitalism is hypocrisy, I fail to see the problem.
  • Not necessarily. I'd have to see it before I can comment.
  • Yep. You nailed it. +5
  • Michael Moore can make money and make sense at the same time. Sub-prime mortgage financing is one of his recent targets.
  • No, not really. Capitalism has made it so that in order to disseminate a message... ANY type of message, one must have a lot of money to do so. You may not agree with every point that Michael Moore makes, but you cannot discount every talking point just because you personally disagree with one or two other points. I'm grateful that he, that somebody or anybody, is out there making people think about what is wrong with our society and helping to effect positive change. You go, Michael!
  • Yes, he is a hypocrite. He gets rich off of his pursuit of capitalism and then criticizes others for their pursuit of money. If he were the true socialist that he seems to claim to be, he would give all of his millions to charity and live like a middle-class person. I don't see him doing that. This is something that gets me about the Holywood stars that keep promoting higher taxes, etc. I don't see them giving up their lavish lifestyle to help the poor. They keep on raking in the big bucks, living in mansions, riding around in expensive cars, flying on private airplanes, and promoting the idea that we don't pay enough in taxes to support the needy. Well, I will start taking them seriously when they start giving up their luxuries and giving their grossly excessive incomes to charity. Note, I have nothing against people being rich. My problem is with holier than thou rich people who keep trying to tell me that I am not doing enough to help others and/or that it is wrong for people to accumulate wealth.
