In the show, The Biggest Loser, players lose over 2-3 pounds per week. Two to Three pounds is the recommended weight loss per week by health professionals. Why is it okay for them to lost such mass amounts but not okay for the public?

Those aren't exactly mass amounts besides the fact that they're under strict medical supervision which most of the public would not be.

What they are doing is not okay. People will push themselves beyond the bounds of good sense when there is money at stake, like the woman who died trying to win a Wii for her kids. No one will put a stop to it until someone dies or is permanently harmed. I think several of them have done serious harm to joints or back already. It has been downplayed, but they will suffer the effects for the rest of their lives.

It is ok for the public, you may eat or not eat whatever foods you wish. . I strongly suspect the show has medical professionals on staff (to avoid getting sued if nothing else).
