What does the phrase "rosen years" or a similar phrase "roastin ears" mean? My GG Grandfather uses this phrase in a Civil War letter as a food item. Any thoughts?

    roastin ears might refer to ears of corn that they would roast in the fire (quite good, by the way).

    roasting ears is corn on the cob roasted in a fire .the old people around me still use this term even if the corn is boiled in water on a stove
