Gun owners, would you feel safer if everyone (excluding criminals, mentally ill) had a gun?

Why shouldnt mentally ill people be allowed guns? You could be anorexic yet be a cop or something, youd be allowed a gun then...and if someone accidentally ran a red light and were branded a criminal, why shouldnt they be allowed a gun if they needed it for whatever reason? You shouldnt discriminate. But in answer to your question, no, cos I think theres a lot of people that arent mentally ill or criminals that are just bad people!

I think people who are mentally ill (even anoretics) tend to be more suicidal....so they really shouldn't have guns...not just b/c they could hurt someone else, but they could easily hurt themselves also.

I guess....but not all anorexics are suicidal, I know a couple that arent. But not all mental illness means youre suicidal, theres sooo many different ones. I know what you mean about the suicidal thing though...I just dont like the stigma.

I have done a lot of research pertaining to eating disorders....They facsinate me for some reason...and I know quite a few girls with that problem.....9 times out of 10 they are depressed...which in turn means they could easily become suicidal.

I don't like the stigma either, but that's just the way it is...There's almost no way you can be a happy person and starve yourself.

Hmm well when I was in hospital I met quite a few, some of them were depressed, and went on to be suicidal, but some of them didnt seem depressed at all, just desperate to look "better" and were seemingly happy and bubbly all the time. I guess you have a point, but I still dont think that just cos you have a mental illness you shouldnt be allowed a gun. I cant think of any more illnesses that I can use as backup lol, so I think I might surrender!

LOL....If you are the high functiong side of Autistic you should be able to own a gun IMO.....But I really don't consider autism a mental illness when you are talking about someone high functioning

Yeah I know what you mean. I used to be friends with this girl, and, I dont even know why I was friends with her really, she was so unbelievably selfish, and was a complete bitch to everyone, and in the end she said something that was worse than usual, so I told her about it and we got into a mahusive argument, and though I was upset about what she said, i was glad to be finally light, fighting back. Ugh just thinking about her makes me want to throw up! lol.

Yeah I can be really mean when i want to be, but I'm not very often, not unless someone really upsets me. Like with Vicky, I said some harsh stuff to her (not as harsh as I could've though, given her background!) but she said well worse stuff to me! AND she spread it round that I'm a slag, so now half my friends dont like me cos they dont wana be branded by association!!

Oh they are not that bad at all.....Stop getting yourself all worked up LOL....I've had dozens...and while they are uncomfortable and no one likes them...they aren't as terrible as your friend is making them seem...and it only lasts like 2 minutes

You should just go....Yes dozens...I had like pre-cancerous cells on my cervix and had to have surgery not to mention being pregnant someone always has their hands up there lol.....

No well thats not the only reason, well, sort of, but, I dunno...I think I'd make a rubbish mum, I'd end up making all the mistakes that my parents did.

They dont even do first screenings till people are 21 here, I think they have to suspect something is mega wrong for them to do one. I read in a magazine once someone about my age, maybe a bit younger actually, that ended up with cervical cancer and she'd been to her dr loads asking for a smear, but they wouldnt do one!
