Unlike places such as Yahoo Answers, you don't choose the best answer. The users do;)

Other than the rewarding challenge of learning another language:

Arabic: will allow you to read the Koran in the original so you get a feel of what the Islamic people believe and not have to listen to twists one way or the other.

Hindi: gives you a new appreciation for the dissemination of cultures and the rising economic power of India might prepare you for some business dealings with those that speak that language.

Mandarin: obviously the rising power of China will continually force the Western world to deal with them more and more so being prepared for that is of material benefit.

Spanish: being one of the romantic languages has great examples of literature and music that is best appreciated in the original languages. Because Spanish is also closer to Latin than English, it will allow you to gain a deeper appreciation for where many of our words come from.

Russian: makes for an interesting study if one appreciates the history and etymology of Eastern European culture and words. Unlike the practical and aesthetic reasons of the other languages, Russian will likely appeal only to those who want the challenge of learning a new language or those interested in the history and culture of Eastern Europe, the Slavic nations and perhaps as far back as the Byzantine Empire.

Most of these depend on what you are looking for in a language.

Arabic: I would definitely vote Arabic the prettiest written language. It sounds like a dumb reason, but that's one of the reasons I want to learn it. You can read the original Koran. It would also be fairly useful for business (though keep in mind that you won't really be able to understand the dialects). It is also very widely known in the Arab world and is one of the official languages of the United Nations. It also has an alphabet but is written from right to left.

Mandarin: Is supposed to be very hard, especially if you want to write it, seeing as each word has its own charachter. However, it has the most speakers of any country and, due to China's influence as a world power, should be widely spoken around the world. Chinese is also an official UN language.

Hindi: I just started learning this a couple days ago. This also has an awesome looking alphabet, which is supposed to be completely phonetic, though there are some sounds which are hard to tell apart. Also, Hindi is the language Bollywood movies are made in. Bollywood is the second-largest movie-making company. (#1 is obviously hollywood). That will provide a lot of opportunities to keep up the language even if you don't travel to India frequently.

Farsi:I don't really know much about Farsi. Sorry. Here's what Wikipedia has to say: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_language

Spanish is definitely the most useful if you live in the US. It is very easy, there are very few problems with the grammar, and there are TONS of people to practice on. Spelling is a dream, and it is very useful for any job or just for chatting at the nearest taco truck. It's also a Romance language, it's fairly close to English, and it will be very easy to learn another Romance language. And it's another UN language and is probably the second most widely spoken world language next to English.

Russian: Hmm. Russian also has an awesome alphabet which is very logical and whatnot and it looks like you're writing in code. It was created by some priests so it's fairly close to the roman alphabet. It's rumored to be among the more difficult languages, so another challenge if that's what you are looking for.

here's a good website for looking at languages.

Oops. I looked at the date you posted it and that was two years ago, but oh well...
