• Well, since the Patriot Act was signed, te life of the average American is an open book anyways, though not open enough for many Conservatives.

• I don't like it one bit and I pass over many "ads" for this reason. But I rely on caller I.D. as a weapon, albeit a weak one. There is no privacy on this earth any longer.

• Hmmm, Sooo, Wal-Mart is "evil", K-mart and Sears are "conniving", Meijers and Kroger are expensive, Aldi and Save-a-lot have nasty food... Where in the heck should I shop now?

• I like farmers markets. Pikes market is decent too, especially is you are into *fresh* seafood.
  Back in NH, there were quite a few "localvores", but with all of the farms around, anything you can get from a cow, chicken, pig, or plant/tree was locally raised/grown/made, fresher, and about the same price since there wasn't any shipping to speak of.
  As for turkey, many of my thanksgiving dinners involved a shot glass; a glass to spit out the #6 shot that were imbedded in our dinner.
  Since moving out West, I miss the great cheese and maple candy :(

• We have a farmers market, unfortunetly all they carry are cakes and fruits, nothing that could be lived off of (especially a diabetic) your memories from NH seem intersting tho :)

• I spent my last eight years there living in a small cabin in the woods over a mile from pavement with a great view of a mountain a few miles out my bedroom window. Many would kill for that sort of view, or the freedom to walk out in the yard naked and water a tree if the bathroom is occupied. Granted, not something I liked to do when it was -20F out, but I could crank my 1000W 5.1 sound system to MAX and nobody cared... or heard.
  Waking up some mornings and not seeing my car in the driveway sucked though. It was there... somewhere. Spending half an hour digging for it and another ten minutes trying to pry the door open due to icing sucked, but at least I didn't have to lock it (good thing since the locks froze too).
   
  I am pretty sure that if I left my front door unlocked now, stuff would be missing when I returned, and I would be arrested for taking a piss off of my porch here.

• Yeah, sounds like it was a mixed emotion thing there. We can go outside naked in the backyard if we wanted to when the corn is up. Unfortunently the coy dogs and coyotes love that too. We live like hillbillies, the grass needs cut cuz the stupid mower keeps breaking down, we got a few cars on the front law, but it's a criminal deterant as well. We had a few guys broke down last year that walked a mile from the highway to look for gas, they went to all of our neighbors and me and dad sat on our porch and watched. We had an inkling, so we had a gas can (and a rifle) between us. They glanced at our yard and avoided us until they couldn't avoid us anymore. Embarrassing? sometimes. I kinda like being overlooked tho. We got problems with snow as well, our driveway always has a drift as tall as I am, thinking about getting a monster truck to help with our hillbilly look and so that we can actually get out lol. Gets tough being stuck in a house, at least 9 miles to the nearest gas station and all ya really want is a cigarette

• I made sure to be well-stocked in rolling tobacco and papers.
  As for the snow, the last week I was in NH, there was a BAD ice storm. The National Guard came by four days later (they had other places to be first) to check door-to-door. They went to my neighbors down the hill first, then my neighbors up the hill.
  They didn't even know there was a driveway to my place until I come tearing ass up the road in a Mazda 626 with bald tires and, just before plowing into their Humvee, cut right and disappear into the woods. They looked at the hole I left and, when I talked to them, they would not even think of taking their Humvees up there for fear of getting stuck.

  We never had an issue with uninvited guests since we were on a dead-end road. To even get to the road, you had to slam on the brakes in the middle of a blind corner on a state highway. Then you travelled up the goat path for a little over a mile and looked for a low spot in the grass on the right.
  During the winter, you could either go less than 20MPH and get stuck on the hill in our driveway, or more than 10MPH and skid off the side of it. I did it regularly in normal cars, and last winter in a Subaru with blown shocks and less than four inches of ground clearance even when the snow was a foot deep and unplowed.

• It sounded like a great vacation home, but I wouldn't want to live there. That's funny about the humvee. We usually watch the weather and plan well in advance but it was a "spring up blizzard" weatherman said 2-3 inches of snow at most. We had plenty of food, I always have enough stock to last us an entire month if need be, but didn't realize we were low on cigs, we were gonna get them when we went to get my dads meds. It was so cold and the drifts froze so hard I could jump up and down on them and not even crack the snow. One of our friends brought out his truck and plow and ended up blowing out his tie rod from trying to push it... He got about 5 foot in. I have to say that's the worse we've had tho :) Thankfully!
