Who invented msg and why isn't it illegal?

    MSG(monosodium glutamate)is never "hidden" in ingredient statements. By law, it has to be listed in the ingredient statement. Gelatin,natural flavoring,flavorings,textured protein,barley malt are all additives commomnly used in manufacturing that have nothing to do with MSG. It can be a bit confusing but, honestly, if it isn't on the label, it isn't in the product(unless you are buying illegally imported items).

    lol it's not illegal cuz its safe. it's also in tomatoes, strawberries, and cheese. so if we banned msg we might have to ban that stuff too. i love me my cheeeeese.

    MSG was developed as a flavor enhancer. It's not illegal since it is against no US laws to include it in food.

    Yes, some people are allergic to it - like eggs, nuts and other foods. That doesn't make it illegal.

    If one wants to avoid MSG, one certainly can.

    msg is a naturally occurring substance...mushrooms are full of it....better check out which foods it naturally occurs in before you ban it.
