I would need to see serious scientific study before I backed this claim.

My guess is no or someone would've noticed the ill effects by now.

In some severe cases yes. There have been a few cases of children being born with rickets due to their pregnant mother's being entirely covered and not getting enough vitamin D.

Muslim women should be sure to take vitamin D supplements when pregnant, and sit in the sun without their veil for a period of time each day, just in case. This can be in a backyard if they are that afraid of anyone looking at them...

You must first ask yourselves if veiling of women is a completely Islamic thing. It is not. The veiling of women in general is bad, but it's not a muslim thing...it's middle eastern culture. Don't confuse the 2

I know they veil themselves in public; do they not enjoy their own yards without veils? I don't know anything about it really.

No I am certain that the islamic men provide their woman with enough of that for them not to become deficient. The veiling has nothing to do with them recieving the nutrient. Actullay, the veil comes off during the process of recieving this lovely nutrient. I am the one thats vitamin D deficient.

Vitamin D is absorbed through the face, and when wearing a hijab the face is free. When indoors the sun is still able to enter the room/house through windows with the blinds closed. It doesnt cause any illnesses of any sort otherwise why would God make it obligatory? And the veiling of women is NOT a cultural issue but a religious issue - in the Holy Quran it specifies that it is compulsary to wear long loose clothing covering everything but you hands from the wrists and your face. If you want to cover your face that is your own choice and a respected action - you must cover as much as you feel you must to not draw unwanted attention (wandering eyes). And if there is little sun what about people that live in places like colder and duller areas then England or America. It doesnt affect us so much that we lack it.

    Good question.
What you are refering to is Rickets. This usually only develops in childhood with growing bones. If a child doesn't have enough vit d them their bones will being deformed and weak. By adulthood the damage has already been done.
If you notice though most little girls in the middle east are not expected to cover themselves in the same way as their mothers. This could very well be one of the reasons.
