  • Death by lightning is very rare. To be struck by lightning u would normally have to be somewhere where lightning might be conducted more easily, such as under a tree or holding an umbrella. Even then it is still unlikely. Lightning can just strike down on u out the sky, but this is very unusual. With the amount of adverse weather nowadays, including floods, high winds, hurrucanes and torpedos, terential rains and all these toghether are more likely to occur than a lightning striking you.

Of the 1318 persons who died, 1125 (85%) were male, and 896 (68%) were aged 15-44 years. The annual death rate from lightning was highest among persons aged 15-19 years (6 deaths per 10,000,000 population; crude rate: 3 per 10,000,000). The greatest number of deaths attributable to lightning occurred in Florida and Texas (145 and 91, respectively), but New Mexico, Arizona, Arkansas, and Mississippi had the highest rates (10.0, 9.0, 9.0, and 9.0, respectively).
