You're reading Those of you,(yes, I myself am now a convert) with either an iPhone or iPod touch, what are your favorite Apps and WHY?

I couldn't agree with you more! Aside from the fact that, in my humble opinion, for the area that they cover, U.S.Cellular is by far the MOST reliable of carriers with Verizon following not even close but far and away better than any of the other carriers out there that I know of. and believe me I've tried most of the big ones, or in some cases such ad T-mobile, steered clear of that due to the experience of friends with it. They might have the prettiest spokesperson hands down, but you'd be better off with two cans and a string for service.
Sadly where I moved U.S. Cellular doesn't provide service aside from roaming on Verizon's network, and thus adding on an additional fee to use them.
I wish you and the rest of America luck with iPhone's breaking the chains of an exclusive contract with AT&T, the most petty and ruthless of carriers. At least they blow Sprint and NextHELL out of the water service reliability-wise.
It's my understanding that Apple is quickly becoming fed up with AT&T.

i believe it, and the only 2 people ive ever heard have one single thing good to say about att are my best friend and his gf. mind you his gf works for att so what is she suppose to say??

Thanks for yer answer, btw. And while it really didn't actually ANSWER the question as such, I do agree with and respect yer opinion here, thus the +6 I awarded it.
Funny thing tho, you mentioned Blackberries were good aside from the Storm, but my girl's phone is a Blackberry Curve on the same iffy AT&T network as my new iPhone and she has major connection issue with it. Where my iPhone seems to do just fine, not to say GREAT by any stretch of the imagination, but better than the Curve by quite a bit.
by Capt. Jack Sparrow GALCIY on September 12th, 2009
well taken what you said is proof positive. where i work all the company phones are curves, but they are on the verizon network. NO PROBLEMS EVER. the fact that its a CONNECTION ISSUE says it all.... ITS THE NETWORK!!!
by Capital J on September 12th, 2009
I tell just about anyone who'll listen that back home I have several GOOD friends who are AT&T line technicians. The company has ALWAYS provided them with FREE work-phones with FREE unlimited plans they can use for personal use. So what do the VAST MAJORITY do? They purchase THEIR OWN phones and plans, often through U.S.Cellular(As I said they are far and away TOPS in the area I'm from)just to be able to have reliable service while traveling to different areas for work.
Hell if their own PEOPLE don't want to be bothered with them for FREE, why would anyone want to pay their ridiculous charges for "service"?
Me? it came down to I was very fortunate to be offered the opportunity to join a family plan that had enough "roll-over" minutes and a reasonable rate to have made it foolish to pass on.
Plus most of the people around here seem to have just given in to the evil Empire that is AT&T that I'd not be on the same network as those I was talking to, surrender was my only option.

I was with Verizon not too terribly long after they took that name, it was a merger with the ol' Primeco and some other carrier.
Early on they were literally incredible with not only service but CUSTOMER SERVICE! They would damn near physically bend over backwards to please customers, something I think AT&T's people would laugh their asses off over behind closed doors.
Sometimes I swear that AT&T's CEOs are former TimeWarner Cable CEOs that were deemed not bloodthirsty enough.
The thing is, again MY opinion, I used to track quite closely the opinions of Consumer Reports, Cnet and many others that rate things of this nature. Well about the same time that Verizon was head-n-shoulders atop the heap by a mile in the area of customer service and such with these types of ranking services and it was like a light bulb went on over the Verizon presidents head, like"We DID it! Now we can just stop trying so hard and just be as big of A-holes as other "service providers"." They have to try hard to slip to ATT or TWC tho.

haha. dont get me started on time warner. i HATE THEM. and hate is a word i dont like.i believe it depends on where u live as to whos serivce is best. ive seen verizons coveage maps and its not as great in the midwest as it is in on the east coast. so maybe they arent the best in your area, but they are in mine.att blows my nuts, twc blows my nuts, IN MY AREA. and thats what matters to me.

Good points.
.
Several years ago, when I replaced my first phone (a mobile car phone) with a flip phone, my wife got on my case because "You just got it because it looks like a Star Trek communicator" and "You're phone sucks because it only has a handful of ringtones and mine has thirty", not to mention all the games it didn't have as well.
.
My reply was it FIT in my uniform pocket, unlike the one she had, and I bought it as a PHONE, not a gaming toy or musical ringtone factory.
.
Later that same day, at the local mall, she couldn't get a signal to call her parents about something. I pulled my phone out and said "Lookie here! Five bars! THAT'S why I bought this phone...because it WORKS!"
.
Now-a-days I have a lot more features, simply because it's so hard to get one without them. But first and foremost it's a PHONE to me!

AHMEN CHIEF, all the bells and wistles are great, and i love them. the more the better. but in an emergency 30 different ring tones wont give my phone better reception on the country roads, and backwoods. well put!!
by Capital J on September 12th, 2009
The coolest thing about my current phone is how d*mn long the battery lasts on it compared to my last phone! Unless I use it a lot, I can go several days with a strong charge left on it...almost a week of stand-by time, if I don't use it much!
.
That's AWESOME to me!

Couldn't agree with ya more Chief(or you for that matter J)
THAT has ALWAYS been my first and foremost determining factor in a phone, and to be honest, the iPhone doesn't get exactly an A+ in that respect, but it is adequate.
I'm not real big into phone games, for that there's far better on PCs and game consoles, but I gotta say there are indeed some very useful(not to mention many FREE) applications on the iPhone I never woulda thought I'd have any use for till I got one.
I WILL say though that the battery life on this sucker is appallingly short-lived.
AT&T and Apple both brag about how this new 3Gs has superior battery life over the old iPhone, but friends of mine that HAVE experienced both say that is total BULLSHIT, the old one lasted longer. To SOME degree you can extend things with just turning off certain features that use it up quicker. Or don't diddle with B.S. when you NEED to rely on it for phone purposes and don't have charging capabilities readily available.
by Capt. Jack Sparrow GALCIY on September 12th, 2009
Battery longevity is a function of two things: battery capacity and battery loading.
.
The fact of the matter is that the more you load the battery down with power consuming features/functions, the shorter it will last, for any given battery.
.
My wife has an LG. The screen on that uses a LOT of her battery power. That and the fact that she HAS to surf the web continuously with it, for email, weather, and more. She charges hers nearly daily, as a result.

I gotta admit I'm hooked.
I Saw on CNet video that someone actually found a way to use the iPhone on Verizon's network, right NOW, TODAY.(Albeit ridiculously costly)
If you have the active phone and one of Verizon wireless mobile hotspot Wi-Fi devices(The MiFi 2200 device is about the size of eight stacked credit cards and weighs just over 2 ounces, so it’s ultra-portable.)
You just turn the 3G off on the phone since you won't need it, sync the phone's Wi-Fi to the and set up a mobile VOIP account with a carrier like Skype which I believe is a free download from the app store on iTunes, but may include a per call fee.
Granted it's a LOT of dicking around but it's a helluva way to buck the system of the Evil Empire that is AT&T.
