Did someone have to unscrew your mistake or did it not matter in the first place?

You aren't a child. Just do you job, just like you know how to. You'll get over the error -- that's how we learn.

Everybody makes mistakes - we are only human afterall. That is how you learn. 99% of the time, things are fixable. Don't kick yourself too hard, just take ownership of it, cough it up to a lesson learned, do what you can to rectify it (or find out how to fix it) and you probably won't do it again.

Well, chances are that you haven't made that mistake that often, otherwise it wouldn't affect you so much. So just remember that you usually do a good job and try to focus on doing things exactly the way you remember. That's what I would do!

It's all about attitude. A football coach would resign citing " I'd rather leave while on a high" really what he means is I made a mess right up to a crossroad and guessed right. Now before I'm tested again and found out or fall down another hole I'd rather leave and let it become someone elses problem."

So the secret is knowing when to jump and when to hang on but always keep an eye on your attitude, confidence is no ones friends

I did, acted like it didn't happen, couldn't care about it any more I screwed it up enough, and regained my composure to continue to do the great job I had been doing. No one ever brought it up or acted like they remembered it. If they did, I'd probably look at them as if that is all they can remember in their lives. +5

Let'sbe practical. To own up to your error or not depends very much on the kind of person you report to.
I made two serious errors in my 29 years of service under two different bosses. The first one hushed it up. The second exposed me.
Either way, I learnt two lessons about people.

You just suck it up and move on. I made a huge mistake by misunderstanding the rules of sending out bulk mailings. Got a call from the post office informing me that the mail would not be sent out because it failed to meet the necessary criteria for bulk mailing. Fortunately a co-worker was able to undo my mess...she and I raced to the post office and spent a few hours re-doing everything. She guided me and I followed her and she saved my a**. It happens. It's never the end of the world! :)

The end justifies the means - if it turned out alright, who cares?
