True story:
Officer pulls over a vehicle and approaches the "driver's side" and taps on the window. The woman rolls down the window and the officer asks her for her license and proof of liability insurance. The woman states that she doesn't have a license to which the officer replies, "Then why are you driving?" The woman says, "I'm not." The officer looks into the car and realizes the controls are on the other side. The officer says, "Have a nice day, ma'am," and walks away.

There are no laws requiring that controls be on the left-hand side of vehicles operated in the USA. Look at the small delivery trucks used by the US Postal Service and you'll see that, for ease of deliveries, they have the controls on the right-hand side.
