Question

Help answer this question below.

I want to file for sole custody of my daughter. The form asks for her biological father's information: SSN, address, phone number, etc. I don't have any of that information, can I still file the form?

  • You could file it, but it will likely be rejected. However, if her father is in hiding for some reason and you can prove that you attempted to locate him with no success and submit documentation of that fact with your forms, you might be able to file without it. Or you could file the form with the last known address and phone number you have for him and search your records for his Social Security Number (SSN). Check divorce paperwork, it is usually stated somewhere.

You could also run a search here:

(Site is 1-800-US SEARCH) or another similar site. Good luck.
