  • My 92-year-old mother used to just chop a tomato fresh from the garden and added it to eggs and then scramble. Looks terrible, but the taste is awesome!
  • My mother and grandmother (both Slovak) made Machunka this way: Fry some bacon in a pan. Reserve the bacon and use the grease to brown bite-sized pieces of pork. Meanwhile, soak several cans of sauerkraut in a large bowl with water. After the meat is browned and the bacon is crumbled and put in the pot, pour in the sauerkraut and water. Add salt and pepper to taste and cook. To thicken, add flour to a cup of water, stir and then add mixture to the stew. It's great with rye bread for lunch, dinner or even breakfast on a cold morning. • i am wondering the same thing. My mother used to make it. She learned from her mom. She was Lithuanian and Polish. We know there's tomato sauce or canned chile sauce, peppers, onions, sliced or chunks of minced meat (balogna). Not sure what else though.
  • Seems to be various forms. My family would make it with the following ingredients... tomato paste sometimes sauce milk bacon onions flour beef? bullion cube Cut the bacon up into small pieces then fry to crisp. Cur the onions into small pieces and brown in the bacon grease. Add the bacon and then tomatoe paste and milk. Add flour to thicken the sauce. Thicken to desired consistency, add bullion cube then simmer until it starts to boil. Spread onto slices of white bread like cream chip beef. Ugly but so good. Sorry I do not know the exact amounts of each ingredient.
  • ask your parents , they might know or you could try goggling it
