No/ Ideas transmitted by their characters no sounding through alphabet. Interesting sideline; the computor programs that translate Chinese into western languages and back come the closest to artificial intellegence as we have in the real world of IT research.

Not really. it is in a very different language family. "western" languages generally don't have tones, for example. you can look at different language families at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_family
