Since a white gold ring is plated with rhodium to give it a true white color why not just rhodium plate a silver ring? Why pay for the cost of gold if the gold color is hidden?

    They do make rhodium plated silver rings.

    Maybe it is just the prestige of being able to say I am wearing gold instead of silver.
