Childhood isn't always a great thing. I think it's a mixed bag. Probably being loved and all the manifestations of that is most scarring. In the end, all of us grow up and however well-prepared we are, we must become responsible for ourselves and our lives. That is easier said than done for some of us. For some of us "getting there" can take a lifetime.

Being molested. Especially from a loved one. Or seeing a family member die in front of your eyes. Those are the two worst ones I can think of.

From my experience, I would abuse whether physical or psychological directed not only toward the child, but used on other siblings as well. I would have to say the mental aspect was the worst and would rather have been beaten than manipulated, this has created a huge trust issue for people's motives in my life, whether it be dating relationships or just friendship.
