I`m using my laptop with wireless broadband upstairs through my desktop and router and ntl modem downstairs but i want to get rid of my desktop is there way i can carry on receiving the signal upstairs without it

    If your internet connection is going from your modem to your router then you shouldn't need the desktop running at all. Are you saying you're going from your modem to your computer to your router? This is possible, I suppose, but it doesn't make much sense. Modem to router to wireless laptop will work fine as long as I understand your setup correctly.
