When they are sick. It's no use contaminating all the other children. Also, I would keep my child home if they had lice, and they would stay home until the lice were gone. I'd hope other parents would do the same.

Rule of thumb where i work if your child has a fever of 99 or higher keep them home for at least 24 hours. When showing signs of cough, fever, runny nose, headache, stomach aches all at once take them to the doctor and if really young the hospital right away. Its really a matter of how is your child acting is it stomach ache cause they have a test or didn't do thier homework or do they legitimatley don't feel good. Rule of thumb to if someone says they don't feel good chances are they don't. could be they just wanna be around mom and dad too there is a plethora of reasons kids wanna stay home but never take anything for granted. I had a friend whose child was saying her stomach hurt and mom still sent her to school enede up she had appendicitis....point made.

I have even heard of parents throwing chicken pox parties to get thier kids sick.....kind of a strange thing to me especially now that the swine flue is in the mix.
