Be very careful and judicious about spending money. To save as much as I spend. Never to waste anything. Their wisdom was born out of living through the WWII. The same wisdom holds good even today.

I learned tons from my grandpa, I learned how to live off the land, to create everything I needed to eat by growing it or trapping it, he taught me how to pan for gold, how to fix about anything with bailing wire and duct tape, how another mans junk can be reused to make something really nifty, that you could start a conversation about anything with anyone, about the building of the first nuke, about the great depression, and the dust bowl. I miss my grandpa.

1. Never eat at a place called "Mom's" 2. Never pay cards with a man named "Doc" 3. Never go to bed with a woman who has less money or more problems than you do.

That You can go through the worst things (WW II) and remain calm and unstressed. That You can take distance and get over the deaths of many people You know, including family, even if it was tragic. . That You can live a simple life and be quite satisfied with it. . That there exist people there who are always very happy to hear Your voice and see You visit them.

Everything since they raised me, but I would have to say I am most thankful for the manners they taught me, the fact that I could cook like a pro when I was 10, and how my grandmother taught me how to step and not stomp around like a horse:)

My Grandpa took me out and showed me that dial that goes around on the light meter and then said.... if a light is on, the dial is spinning and everytime that dial goes around the light man takes more money out of his pocket. I had a very tight but sweet Grandpa. ;)

None of them liked children and spent any time with me doing anything. I have no memories of learning anything from either set except indifference and distain for children.
