I used to watch him on TV, and while I'm not sure if what he was saying was actually that funny, it was interesting, and his influence on other comedians is large.

Almost all good comedians (like Hicks) rail against the establishment and people against things that they feel are important. They all make their points, most with jokes, that make you laugh when you hear them, and think about when you're not there.
I thought I remembered him being on some shows I used to watch, and may have, but didn't recognize the 3-4 videos I watched.
He was good. As one of the reviewers said on his website, he should be ranked up there with Lenny Bruce. ;-)
