I think that people are taking mental illness more seriously than they used to but there's still a long way to go in the education process. I think a lot of it is fear and ignorance about the subject and can be a prejudice of sorts.

No gtravels, it's that your re-educating them because they're coming to, what you see as, the "wrong conclusions".
Education is about equipping people with skills to arrive at their own conclusions. If the teacher is successful they may not be those the teacher arrived at themselves.
In fact if we are to progress, they cannot be, since they must be in advance of and be an enlightenment to the teacher.
If you are truly going to educate anyone, be prepared to be educated yourself. Otherwise it isn't education it's brainwashing.

the're either immature and not being very respectuful about it or they just need to get educated,I mean some of these people might not understand or they might not be to serious about and are either dumb, stupid or ignorant people.

Well now I don't consider this a monologue since there are two of us in this discussion.
As for a joke, "Zipeddy Do Dah", and if you don't think thats funny, "Do Rah me". If your still not laughing, is that because we have different sense of humour, or because one of us is suffering from a mental illness?
I don't know and in many cases a psychiatrist could only decide on a value judgement.
Not being a psychiatrist, if you are laughing then, I'm happy. If you're not then I just shrug my shoulders.
As for torment I have no wish to do anything of the sort, just pointing out that I have no desire to be re-educated by a bunch of guys who came up with electric shock therapy to deal with people who may just have a different view on things.

puzzled: I'm with you on that last bit: I have always been absolutely horrified that respected medics could be allowed to legally apply Electro-Shock Treatment to any patient, which is one reason why I am very wary of mental hospitals.
I think you're an OK guy,but ZippeddyDooDah and DohRehMe are songs, not jokes. HAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

Like it or not, accept it or not, many mental disorders are hard to verify. Cancer is easy to verify. It is in your body, in the form of a diagnosed tumor, blood condition, or other form of renegade cells, or it is not. Diabetes is unmistakably diagnosed as unprocessed sugar in the blood, which is there or is not there.

One person's funk can be the next person's depression, there is no physical sign of severity. Signs of percieving nonexistent persons or things, such as in Schitzophrenia, could be actual or feigned. Years ago in this state, a treasurer claimed hysterical amnesia just as she was being investigated for over $1 million in missing state funds. Since there are insurance claims involved, as well as paid disability time off, those who pay the way are understandably frustrated by inability to verify.
