When a baby does finally sleep, it does appear to be so peaceful and content.

I think because when you see a baby sleeping, they always look like they can't be woken up.

Babies, toddlers and children have an amazing ability to just "pass out" when they go to sleep. While it is true that some babies are restless sleepers in their first few months, when they do sleep, they sleep solidly and without troubles or stress. Small children are generally able to fall asleep very quickly and at any given time - in the car, in front of the television, at the dinner table, etc.

WHY ARE ELDERLY PEOPLE OFTEN CALLED "OLD PEOPLE" BUT CHILDREN ARE NEVER CALLED "NEW PEOPLE"?...both are a mystery.

If someone says to me that they "slept like a baby" I always reply "Oh, you pissed the bed four times and woke up screaming at 5?"

It means that they drank out of a bottle and sh*t themselves while they were asleep.

when babies do sleep they go into a kind of sweet sleep that is deep and refreshing because they need to sleep to grow, develop their brain etc. whereas when we've grown up, we don't sleep as well and need to go to the loo and can have things we're worrying about. Babies don't have all those worries and they can pee in their nappy if they want to.

Because when babies sleep it seems simpler, more deep and more restful than when an adult does. Yet this is merely a figure of speech, so it has no real practical explanation.

Because babies are allowed to sleep without interruption and people calling you asking you if you are watching a TV show, directions to your house, what you are wearing etc. They are allowed to sleep because they need the sleep, adults need sleep, but we also need to take care of responsibilities more.

It isn't a literal metaphor (I'm not sure if it's ok to even say that lol). It means that you sleep as if you had as little to worry about as a baby.

Because babies can wake up totally refreshed and sleep like the dead again after they eat and puke.
