Do many occupations not warrant a degree and are simply using college as part of their screening process?

    I think you have found out what some employers use as a trick to "Dissuade" potential employees from applying. You get a +3 from me and frankly that's a damn good question.

    Not that I let that stop me, I apply if I have 50% of what they want.

    Yes you completely right. Colleges have to come up with gimmicks to get full enrollment. Furthermore,ther's alot of pockets that rely on that cash flow situation.

    Growing up I thought I needed a University degree to do anything successful with my life. But after all these years, I realized I was sooooo wrong. I was trained as an accountant BY an accountant who was glad I didn't have a university degree and money didn't have anything to do with it. I was paid very well.

    I was recently offered a job in a bank and my salary would have been the same as the girl who had a degree.

    Absolutely. Many jobs that require a degree today were available to high school grads in the past. So, yes, the B.A./B.S. is a screening tool.
