You're reading I am a full time exempt employee (40 hrs/wk). I often work over to get the job done. I put in anywhere from 40-55 hrs/wk. If I request to leave early one afternoon, 4 hrs early that day, am I required by law to use my vacation/ti

Wow, I'm surprised. I would have thought being exempt meant you could leave early from time-to-time (assuming pre-approved by manager) and not necessarily use time off to cover it. I guess the logical side of me wonders what is the incentive for being exempt then? If I work over consistently & every month or two want to leave early to take care of something, you would think it wouldn't matter. This just doesn't make sense to me.

Under the law it means you get your daily salary whether you work 1 hour or 10 hours. But there is no law that says an employer must give you vacation time. If your employer does give you vacation time, your employer gets to set the guidelines of that vacation time (with a few limitations in some states).
