• Your references in Exodus and Numbers are from the law given to the Jews through Moses. Christians don't adhere to that law. Of course, the Jews largely ignore it too, frankly. But, I digress. . .
   
  '72 was nothing all that special. Some of my first memories were around that time. The first song I really liked was the Jackson Five's "The Love You Save", which was released in '72, I believe. Anyway, thanks for asking.

  Ya I've heard that interpretation before. But I see that as saying God made these cruel laws before then abruptly decided that that's a little too harsh. Also, what do you think about Matt. 19:12? Don't you think that's going over the edge?

  A little background. Being a eunuch was considered a bad, unclean thing to be under the Jews law via Moses. Mutilating one's body, even via a tattoo was wrong. During the time Christ made that statement at Matt 19:12, they still followed that law (it was formally abolished when Christ died). The point Jesus was making was that sacrificing having a wife and family to do the Lord's work was an admirable although not required sacrifice. In that sense, one would be a eunuch.

• It pleases God if we make personal sacrifices to help others. Obviously not to mutilate oneself since that doesn't help anyone, and the scriptures are clear throughout that one's body should be taken care of.
