Depends what you mean by married.
If in a society where the only employment and security available to women is as wives, he is doing the equivalent of saving her from the streets, putting a roof over her head, taking over in a fatherly , protective way, then bless him.
If he's buying himself a clueless little chamber maid who will never see another day of education except for what he tells her and will believe the world is any way he says it is, then at least she gets her food and board in exchange, although its a sad, lopsided world.
If he ever, ever plans to consummate a 'marriage' with her between the sheets then that is totally sick and shameful, but really, at that age, he may just have bought her the easiest life she'll ever have - widowed by 20, perhaps.
Does that mean she'll come out of this with her own property and the ability to decide whether or not to remarry? That would be a gift worth more than anything, in a society that habitually strips women of all choices and dignity.

I think we frequently forget that the intent of old clauses in religions is substantialy different than what we think of today.

Like circumcission, abstaining from pork etc. In the poor hygiene conditions of a largely waterless desert, these on a paractical level make sense. For most most of today, these points are moot, but we would not condemn anyone who upholds the traditions.

Some cultures put responsibility on the brother of a man to marry his wife if the brother dies. The intent was clearly to make sure that the wife, in a patriarchal society where she was not allowed to work, did nto starve to death.

Perhaps the rules on taking a child bride had a similar logic behind them? Remember, this would have been before foster homes etc. If a girl were left parentless and without close relatives, is it not possible whe would be better off married? Remember also that maried doesn't necessarily mean having sex as we seem to be assuming. I don't wish to sound niave, but it is quite possibel the husband is waiting (at 80 waiting is likely the wrong word...).

In the world we live in today, there are better alternatives for ensuring our children can live, but in some countries, even today, it may be the best alternative for the girl.

Are we supposed to think different if it was an 80 yo Hindu, say, marrying a 10 yo?
Take the word Muslim out and you get a good question for discussing social, cultural values and traditions around marriage.
However, with the word Muslim left in, it becomes one of those questions that act like powerful homing devices for the Islamophobes and the antireligion secularists. Look at some of the answers and comments and see how they help one another in exposing more of their prejudices.

What BS to hold what is allowed by a country against the National religion of that country. It could be said that America is founded of Christian principals yet the age of consent in Pennsylvania is 14 now should that be held against Christians? A Muslim guy in a Muslim country married a young girl and it isn’t illegal the country should change its laws concerning marriage it has nothing to do with the religion.
