This type of injury is nothing to fool with.

Infections are the key to control, here.

If the wound is more than superfical, you need to see a doctor for antibiotics.

If I went to the doctor for every wound I got I would have to have my own room in the ER. If it's a minor wound (i.e. not swollen 2x the normal size or you can pull the skin up and see the insides of the area) you can 1st treat it with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, it's gonna hurt but that cleans it out. Until it seals shut either take a cotton ball of peroxide and saturate it and run it over the wound or just pour a small amount over it, let it fizz for a minute and wash off.

If it is bad I do agree that a doc should take a look at it. Or if you think it's not bad but still shows sign of infection after a few doses of peroxide may be more serious

See a doctor. A deep wound may be quite dangerous, causing a deep infection that will not be easily treated with topical antibiotics (those applied to the skin.) Another issue is tetanus. Have you have a vaccination for it recently? If not, then SEE A DOCTOR.

In the case of a deep wound that bleeds heavily, you may have struck a vein or an artery. See a doctor. In this case, my advice to "see a doctor" is to call 911, or at least make your way to an emergency room, depending upon the severity of the wound.
