Was there really a "lost continent" of Atlantis? If so, where is it now?

    To my knowledge there is no Empirical evidence that supports the existance of Atlantis, per se.

    There are many theories that explain the Atlantis legend. First I guess it would be important to address the origin of the Atlantis legend itself. It is based on heresay evidence as supposedly relayed to Plato by a traveler who had heard about it in Egypt. The claim was made that there were records of Atlantis in the Great Library at Alexandria. This, like all records that are based on orally relayed stories, makes it tenuous evidence at best from a scientific standpoint.

    the end of the Pleistocene Ice Age— which is a certain fact, but is so far unexplained by Science — is new and our own. We propose that this dramatic event was caused by a huge explosion of the Krakatoa volcano (or perhaps another one), which opened the Strait of Sunda, separating the islands of Java and Sumatra, in Indonesia.

    It is highly believed that this technologically advanced society really did exist. Proof has been escaping us up to now. However there is so much of the ocean we have yet to explore!
    Plato documented the society. Many cultures have a story of Atlantis. So much corraboration points to the reality that the Stories of Atlantis may well be true. Go to the website listed and check out the new evidence.

    The concept of an original civilization that seeded the world civilizations has some support in academia, however it is not the majority point of view.
    More recent discoveries that show that civilizations did not appear as spontaineously as was previously thought tend to confirm that the similarities between isolated cultures may in fact be due to a common origin. If that is true, then Atlantis could possibly be real.

    This will probably sound farfetched to some people, but I swear this is true. Back in 2003, I went on an archeological expedition with some colleagues of mine. We traveled to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, in the Bermuda Triangle, where we had picked up some weird satellite thermal scans. It turned out to be a dead coral reef that was sort of a squat pyramid shape. Exploring deeper, we found some massive rocks. At first we thought it was just a rock formation of some sort caused by the movement of the tectonic plates. Then we realized the “rock formation” had straight edges and were, more or less, flat. We steered our submersible around the coral reef and found five such “formations” meaning it was a pentagonal pyramid. There were many theories around what we had found, but the most common one was that we had found part of Atlantis. The coral reef looked like it had been draped like a blanket over the “rock formation” and did not look like it had formed itself. Coral can’t grow were there is no sunlight for photosynthesis. Obviously we were concerned and somewhat scared. We hope to travel back to the “ruins” in 2010 if we have enough money to fund the trip and we have almost enough and we have three more years so we are hopeful.

    (Yes, the Bermuda Triangle is an area where communication equipment fails sometimes and navigation equipment gets screwy. Some of our equipment started to fail but we decided to go ahead with the expedition anyway.)

    As legend has it, the god Poseidon fell in love with a mortal woman, and their offspring became the rulers of Atlantis. Over time, the island's advanced culture turned from peaceful to warlike, and the island sunk into the sea, possibly as a punishment. According to Plato, all of this happened around 9,000 BC.

    Several theories place Atlantis inside the Mediterranean Sea, contradicting Plato's placement beyond the Straits of Gibraltar. But theorists suggest that Plato's story predated Greek exploration of the whole of the Mediterranean. Plus, the archeological remains of lost civilizations seem to support a site in the Mediterranean. According to this evidence, possible sites include:

    * The islands of Crete and/or Santorini (also called Thera) in the Aegean Sea. A volcanic explosion caused more than half of Santorini to sink into the sea around 1,500 BC. The Minoan civilization on Crete and Santorini was advanced for its time, much like that of Atlantis.

    * The island of Sardinia in the western Mediterranean Sea. Archeological remains indicate an advanced culture on Sardinia around 1,500 BC.

    One popular theory places Atlantis in the middle of an inland sea in Bolivia. The geography of this area seems to match up with Plato's description of Atlantis. But, it's more difficult to find evidence that Atlantean people traveled from South America to Egypt, where ancient Greeks like Plato could learn of them.

    Another theory, based on the topography of the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean and information about climate changes, advances the notion that Atlantis was part of the ocean's Celtic Shelf, south of the British Isles. Due to much lower sea levels, this may have been a coastal area of Europe in the late Pleistocene Era.

    It has been said that Atlantis is part of the island of Mykannos,that fell in to the Aegean Sea. The Greek islands called the Cyclades are about 7 hours by boat south of Athens.Mykannos is one of these islands,and is the only one with a high sheer cliff.It is said that 1/2 of the island fell into the sea and it is Atlantis.

    The only evidence that woul truely beable to set people on a straight path to Atlantis are the accounts given to Solon by the Egyptians. They did not call Atlantis, "Atlantis." They called it "Kefchu." Kefchu is also the name given to the people of Minoa.

    A side note, which may or may not be related. Sometime in the last year, a city was found 2,000 feet underwater off Cuba. It is said to have pyramids and heiroglyphics of some sort. The identity, as far as I know, has not been confirmed.

    Atlantis was created by aliens and is not the starting point of life rather the start of the technological age. In fact the pyramids were created in the image of Atlantis.

    The oceans have been mapped. There is nothing of the sort that has the appearance of a landmass such as an alleged sunken continent. So, the current research denies such a thing. It's still fun to dream up a fantasy of an idealized civilization in a golden era being tragically destroyed...good stuff for bedtime reading.

    Lost Continent? ... I think that's an embellishment cultivated over time.

    Secular history roughly starts around 3000 BC.
    Biblical history starts around 4000 BC.
    The deluge of Noah's era was around 2324 BC.

    Adam was not the first man and therefore not the father of all mankind. The special thing about Adam is that God had 'FORMED' him after the 7th day as opposed to 'CREATING' mankind on the 6th day. God made Adam to be the king of the world forever. The Garden of Eden was a place on the threshhold of the physical & spiritual realms. There, in the garden, God sent angels to teach Adam & Eve Agriculture... Which is the beginning of Civilization. God also spent some time teaching them. Before Adam, people were hunters & gatherers. When Adam & Eve were banished from the garden, so was their immortality. It would take a couple 1000 years for their bloodline to neutralize to a fairly normal longevity. Until then, the generations of Adam were living like gods compared to everyone else. On the average, 6 generations of normal people lived & died in the life-span of one Adamite (son of Adam). At the time of the deluge the life-span was cut in half. Then cut in half again around the time of the Tower of Babel.

    In addition to the angels teaching them in the garden, after they were banished from the garden, angels continued to visit & teach. However these angels were going against God's will and violating the 'prime directive' as they would say on the TV show Star Trek. It was during this time that the Great Pyramid of Giza was built... nearly 280 years before the Deluge.

    The point here is that the angels gave the sons of Adam knowledge of all sorts.

    The second point is the location. The Garden of Eden was on the Pamir Plateau. This was a huge bowl-like region up in the Pamir Mountains. When the deluge came, all who were in the region died... 'cept for Noah & his family. To the West of the Pamirs is Mesopotamia, where Noah & his family eventually descended the mountain from their lodged ark on Ararat. At this point, Ararat was just a term and not the name of a place. It simply meant, 'Highest Peak'. Noah's ark simply rested on the highest peak in that area.

    China’s history documents the flood. It happened during the reign of the Emperor Yaou and is written in the sacred book of the Shu-king. Noah is referred to as Fu-hi, born of a rainbow and he sacrificed seven kinds of animals which he had saved. The sacred book also gives the year of Fu-hi’s birth and says that the flood occurred in his six hundredth year and made the Tibetan Basin uninhabitable for 200 years.

    Before the flood, Adamites were migrating down from the mountain. Cain was the first to leave the land and after much wandering, settled in Mesopotamia and was a builder of cities. History records the Adamites in this area as Akkadians.

    To wrap this up, the Adamic people were far more advanced than the rest of the world. Thanks to all the heavenly help. God sent the flood because He didn't like what the angels were doing. They were taking the daughters of Adam and procreating hybrids angelic/humans. They also created other abominations... like the mythical half human, half animal creatures; centaurs, minotaurs, satyrs, etc.

    God's plan for dealing with mankind will be 120 Jubilee years. This equates to 6000 years, and like the life of Moses is divided into 3 equal parts, so too is God's plan for mankind. For the 1st 2000 years, angels cohabitated with man and God sent the flood to let them know He didn't approve of this. The middle 2000 years, God used Israel to seek out the remnants of these hybrids to kill them off. However, God and Israel didn't get them all. Like Adam's bloodline assimilating to a normal longevity, the offspring of the Nephilim, the Gebor assimilated in their likeness as well. So the final 2000 years, Satan is confined in Heaven, all traces of the Gebor are gone... 'cept for the skeletons of the Neanderthal and the paranormal is at a minimum. This is to allow mankind to become boastful in his knowledge and technology only to be humbled the day the great dragon of deception arrives.

    According to the show I watched recently called "Digging For The Truth" it's unclear as to where or if Atlants ever existed. There are many rumors, stories, what have you about where Atlantis really was located... because of how it is described there are many interpretations. It is unclear as to whether Atlants has actually been found, but many people are still searching. Most of the places where people have found artifacts, when the items were carbon dated, were not from the correct time frame, so that puts a damper on the possibilities. There is a theory however that the story was mistranslated, or taken literally and instead of it possibly being destroyed so long ago, it may have been much more recently than that. I forget the actual dates, so I won't post them... Either way, it is still being researched to this day, and will continue I suppose until the entire earth has been scoured. It's absolutely interesting though.

    My theory is this:

    What we consider the Atlantians today were really the dinosaurs, who had an advanced civilization. The "gods" that they managed to offend with their technology were really aliens, who then nuked the dinosaurs and wiped them out, which caused the Ice Age (nuclear winter).

    Atlantis once existed in the atlantic ocean. It was destroyed and sunk into the sea. However, several inhabitants survived. Some of them came to Egypt and helped build the pyramids. Others came to South America and helped build the Southamerican pyramids over there. Still others fled down into the holes that opened up into the Earth during these apocalypses. Below ground, they created a new Atlantis, centered around the Bermuda triangle that we know of today. There are actually people who have seen aircraft coming out of the bottom of the bermuda triangle and flying up into the air. Through the years many adventurers and explorers have found openings into the ground that lead to Atlantis, but they have not been believed, of course.
