  • Just about anywhere. The herpes virus prefers to enter through mucous membrane - on the genitals, the mouth, the eyes, nostrils, nipples etc. It cannot enter through normal skin. However,it can enter through broken skin. For example, it is quite common for wrestlers to catch herpes while wrestling - the virus enters through cuts on the body, infecting areas such as the neck and forearms. Anywhere cut or abraded skin allows the virus to enter, really. Before dentists routinely wore gloves, it was common for them to get herpes on their fingers from patients oral herpes infections. Herpes of the finger or nailbed is called herpes whitlow and is not uncommon.
  • Oral Herpes can break out anywhere on your face and always finds the weakest spot to appear.I think we all know how it gets tranferred to the genitals.
  • You can get herpes in your brain. It's a very serious condition. It's called herpes encephalitis.
  • Herpes zoster (I think that is the right name) other wise known as shingles can erupt anywhere on your body. It is caused by the same thing that causes chicken pox if I recall correctly and can reoccur. It is also quite painful and can be life threatening.
