  • Bullet (aka 'lightning chess'): less than 3 minutes per side Blitz (aka 'speed chess'): 3 to 15 minutes per side (5minutes is common) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blitz_chess
  • I play on playchess.com and their definitions are the same as wikipedia. From :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_chess Bullet (aka 'lightning chess'): less than 3 minutes per side Blitz (aka 'speed chess'): 3 to 15 minutes per side (5minutes is common) Rapid (aka 'action chess'): ~30 minutes per side When using increments e.g. 2 minutes + 1 second increment per move, this would still count as under 3 minutes total - as it is assumed that less than 60 moves are required. So that would be a bullet game. 2 minutes + 2 seconds increment would count as a blitz game as it would be considered longer than 3 minutes.
