What's "cheap" depends a lot on the region and the season. Over here, at the height of the season you can get 4 large cauliflowers for €1, and any time you buy veggies they'll throw in free parsley and celery. Right now, watermelons are cheap so I got an entire crate full (7 extra-large ones) for €5. I squashed 3 of them to make watermelon ice cubes.
Cans of beans.

watermelon ice cubes sound delish.. whats in them?
by BiasFilledRainbow on August 29th, 2009
Watermelon, and nothing else. I scoop out the insides of the watermelon, pass them through a puree maker (the manual kind) with large holes, use a sieve to get rid of the pips, then make ice cubes. Then on a hot summer night in front of the TV I pop a couple in a glass and they're delicious.

Hmm.. so you pretty much squish watermelon and make ice cubes? that sounds pretty good, i might have to try it. thanks :)
by BiasFilledRainbow on August 29th, 2009
Yep, that's it. You can make ice cubes out of most fruits with lots of liquid in them, and watermelon is near the top of that list.

Where are these cheap vegetables?
by CinnamonWhirl on August 30th, 2009
Over here, at the open air market every Saturday - local produce. Imported stuff costs more of course, and anything you buy from a supermarket shelf is hugely overpriced.
