A psychologist usually has a Ph.D, a psychiatrist has an M.D which means they have gone through medical school. Usually a psychologist will talk to you about your problems, while a psychiatrist will have a get in get out approach and administer you drugs (a psychologist cannot administer drugs). Your future sessions with your psychiatrist will mostly consist about side effects of the drugs. Basically, if you want drugs, go to a Psychiatrist, if you want somebody to talk to and have a problem sorted out in the most professional way possible, go to a psychologist.
