To give life meaning otherwise there would be no motivation to progress to anything but survival at the lowest level. Greater motivation has greater survival value.

Because we are alive. We feel from joy to deep hurts, and those feelings help define our personality. Sometimes I ask myself what is worse if feeling too much, or no feelings at all. My answer always come back to the fact that when I feel, I live; and therefore, I learn and grow.

We are created to think and feel and choose. The feeling part must be to help us care more for others. But it surely does get 'out of whack' a lot of the time, doesn't it?
