  • I had my first PC 15years ago (aprox), and it was running Windows 3.11 for Workgroups and had 32meggabites of RAM. At the time it was brilliant, every file you handled had to have its file type e.g.: .exe .txt .doc, added at the end of the file name, and you had to know its basic computer language called DOS that has now been virtually wiped out in Computers today. You had to do a lot more thinking about the actual processes you were asking your Computer to do. It was great at the time but I wouldn't go back.
  • very slow. +4
  • Very tiring. You had to keep turning a crank just to keep the darned thing running!
  • S L . . (hourglass cursor) . O . Okay, I'm going to go grab a sandwich while that finishes.
  • I still use a computer made in 1998 (11 years ago). 400MHz, 256MB RAM, 190GB of hard drive, 8MB 48-bit 3D video card, and 16-bit sound. It actually runs pretty well. Nowhere near as slow as people claim. using win98SE.
  • It ran fine as long as you kept the furnace really hot. The only thing was it got really expensive buying all the coal needed to keep it going.
  • the worst thing about it was that Windows crashed quite a lot and if you did not know much about computers you could be really stuck, and help, if you could find it,cost a lot more than it does now... also downloading via dialup was....errgh
  • Bloody awful.
  • Games were pretty limited. The animation was kind of sucky.
  • We had to walk uphill both ways, in the cold. We used to huddle around a "water cooler" waiting for our computers to boot up, and sometimes they would and sometimes they wouldn't. We still used actual "floppy disks" which were called that because they really were floppy. Programs were really ugly, no glass-like colorful icons. Computers were more expensive back then too... my first computer and printer were $10,000 (okay that was more than 10 years ago).
  • You could not make coffee while it booted because the OS was on one floppy disk. . The hard drive was so small everything else looked slow. . The games were simple because they were in command files. . The games were stupid because they were in command files. . Everything useful was in command files. . Command files were dumb because they could not be bigger than 64K. . Other than that, PC's today are remarkably similar to those. . OK so maybe those were slightly older than 10 years :))
  • Chiseling the holes in the stone punch-cards took forever...;-D....
