  • Here it is. While discussing the personal responsibility of a police officer or soldier in the event of martial law imposed against the citizens, I felt that their first priority should be to the people they swore an oath to protect, knowing their innocence in that case, regardless of their orders. However, as I thought about my own job in the overcrowded, understaffed emergency ward, I realized that the Niagara Health System is not putting the welfare and safety of their patients above profit and greed, resulting in dangerous workloads for their reduced staff and puts critical patients lives at risk. When angry patients approach us in the department, as employees of the NHS we always say that we don't approve of the way things are being done either, but our hands are tied. We really do hate what they are doing to our health system, but its either their way or the high way, and we are fired for insubordination. What a crazy mixed up world we live in. We must forfeit our morals and our sense of decency in order to keep our jobs, because without jobs we will not be able to survive. A vicious cycle, with a sad ending...
