  • Art graffiti is art, yes, and is absolutely a form of expressing the mind of the artist.
  • Graffiti is just a medium. It can be used for artistic expression, but not all of its uses are artistic.
  • Graffiti, I have seen some great ones but if they are placing it where it was not asked for it is still vandalism. Nothing wrong with expressing your art in the form of graffiti as long as it isn't done without permission on someone else's property.
  • Yes it is art, just usually unwanted art. I have seen some really cool ones.
  • "Banksy" is definbetly art
  • Some graffiti is art, some of it is amazing, but some is just badly-drawn or written scrawls, though some of it IS funny.
  • i definitely think graffiti is art. just like interpretive dance, poetry, drawing, filmography, etc. even (most) gang tags are born out of creativity. +3
  • Graffiti isn't art; it's vandalism. It is unwelcomed paint on someone else's property. That's why there are police records generated by those who are caught. +5
  • I agree both with jbrecken who says it is a medium which may or may not be used to make art and with Chief Wanbli who points out that when it's done without permission it's still vandalism.
  • Drawing on objects without permission is vandalism. The drawing may look nice but it is somewhere it doesn't belong. I think the vandals should be caught prosecuted and sentenced to at least of year of community clean up. Period, end of discussion.
  • Isn't it ? You tell me...
  • Graffiti is by definition vandalism. Some of it may be arty as well, but it is criminal vandalism at its base.
  • If they did it on their own canvas that they bought and paid for, sure. But if Picasso had painted his work all over the side of someone else's property, particularly when he was just learning and wasn't very good yet, and that person had to pay a lot of money to clean it up, he wouldn't have been very popular either. There are plenty of starving young artists throughout history who had to sacrifice and beg and find sponsors to get the canvas and paint to work with. These young artists should be doing the same, if they want any respect. They shouldn't be stealing paint and defacing the property of others in order to express themselves.
