I'd hire around the clock nurses for them and do my best to spend as much time with them caring for them of course. I would never send them to a nursing home.

actually my home is the smallest if by chance i do outlive them i will go to their home where they are most comfortable. my bedroom is still there just cluttered now with all of mom's stuff. mom has done said if something happens to dad first she wants me and my pets to move back home... our family is open and honest about the facts of life. i have told mom i would still keep my home for those nights i have a man friend over unless i am married by then :p great question +5

Hi, Well seems to me your in an emotional turmoil, is this is about you and guilt.
Our relationships with our parents are all different, that is why you have had so many answers.
It is very hard to do the right thing. Ask your self a few questions.
(1)Have you asked your patents what they want,
(2)Will you have the time to spend on their needs
(3)Not everyone can be a nurse especially to their own loved ones the pain of seeing then deteriorate is enough to deal with.
I am a nurse (35years ) and i would not hesitate to have my parents taken cared for in the appropriate environment.
Nursing homes are getting better they have caring staff, entertainment, and every thing for their needs at hand. You will be too exhausted trying to care for them on your own with the result you will be stressed out, less patient, and get ill your self, It is best to make the move when they are in sound mind as the transition can be traumatic if their condition deteriorates.
You may find once they settle in they will be happier and the company will improve their mind. You can visit any time and when you do you will be able to spend quality time. Look for a good nursing home. One that is free from smells, you can tell from their faces if they are happy and the staff should also be smiling. use your gut instinct. I have 4 sons I would hate it if I had to depend on them to wash dress and toilet me.
We are all different you must do what is right for them and you look at it HOLISTICALLY
Look to spend as much quality time and not labor.
what ever you do all the best wishes. You could always pray to god for the answer he works in mysterious ways.
    Take Care.

After raising 3 kids and taking care of my Grandmother and now my elderly uncle..I'm TIRED. I would end up putting them in a home, I want to live what is left of my life. Sad but true.

I wouldn't even let them live in my stable if I had the last manger in Bethlehem. Some kind of assisted living situation would be fine.

Either way would work for me. I'd let her decide. My dad has passed. +5

I would bring them to my home. and care for them there.

I worked in a nursing home for several years when I was younger and while there are some homes that are probably wonderful, what I saw was not. I would not put anyone that I care about in a nursing home.

Depends on why they cannot live by themselves, some illnesses cannot be treated/alleviated at home.

I will say this, if I do have put my parents in a nursing home, it will be the best I can afford. I don't like the idea, but I have to admit there are things I haven't the skill to deal with.
