  • Why should we be herbivores and take our raid on plant world? We can survive healthfully as carnivores? Your questions sounds this same...
  • Humans did not evolve to be herbivores. However, most hunters don't do it for food primarily, more for the thrill of hunting.
  • Why does meat taste so delicious? You develop a chemical to mess up the taste of all meat in this world and I'll stop eating it. :)
  • Because we're omnivores. We have more in common with carnivores. Our appendix used to process plant matter. It's now extraneous. And meat does have nutritious value. Meat eaters tend to have higher bone density. It's in our nature to eat meat, which is neither good nor bad. Those who abstain from meat do so at their prerogative. We can survive without a great deal of things but a person must ask if that is what they really want? I like my amenities.
  • Most people these days just hunt for sport.
  • well to feed every person on Earth plants or veggies, we would be hard pressed to grow enough food for everyone it would add more greenhouse gases,(fertilizer, killing oxygen giving plant, etc) as they other poster said meat eates have more bone density and more healty brown fat PETA should stick to stopping REAL animal cruelty, like comdemming Mike Vick and the Eagles, and leave ppl who eat meat alone no meat eater judges you they way you judge them
  • "Why do people hunt?" That depends on the person. I hunt, I like the taste of wild meats (deer, duck, blah). I also use both a firearm and a bow. The guns seem less 'sporting' than the bow. I also go hunting to get away from civilization - blow off steam, enjoy myself, get in touch with that primal man that resides just below the thin mask of civilization. Mind there are plenty of times where I have gone hunting with weaponry in hand but didn't bag a single animal. That is me, I cannot tell you why others hunt. "We do not need meat for survival. Humans can survive healthfully as herbivores?" You have both canines and molars - this means that you can eat meat and veg. Further, our intestines are long enough to process vegetable matter, yet still reasonably short enough to digest and dispose of meat. We are in design an efficient omnivore. Yeah sure, I guess we all could go to a vegan diet and 'survive' however we might lose some of our adaptations that meat and fish gave us in time. Protein from meat is easier to digest for a human being. This is why whey (milk) protein is a smaller dose than soy (vegetable) protein, and most body builders and folk who use these products see better results from the whey over the soy. A strict vegetable diet would result in malnutrition in people. Vitamin B12, for instance, is only naturally-occurring in animal cells and yeast or mold cells. Since vegan sources of vitamin B12 are scarce, vegans must be vigilant about getting enough of this essential vitamin. This is an arduous task, made more difficult by the fact that some vegans altogether avoid yeast or bacterial products. Nutrients of particular concern are protein, calcium, iron, and vitamin B12. The reality is that most vegans don't last long as a vegan - they cheat. Those who do remain a vegan for life have to do extensive study to find ways around the lacks in an all produce diet to meet the requirements that meat gives us. Like it or not we are a species adapted to hunting and eating meat. We may soon be growing meat in vats (no more animals to kill, just growing steaks) and meet our meat needs, but we are still primordial hunters at heart and will need to address that. BTW most humans are into blood sports. Granted we watch football or boxing or other mundane sports to get our fix, but it is the danger, the competition the 'death' (loss) that we enjoy so much and why there are so many FANaticS when it comes to sports. It is the same drive that sends men (and women) out to stalk prey and bring it down.
  • Survival isn't enough. People must LIVE. And that means an occasional bout with danger.
  • A) most Americans LOVE to eat meat B) if hunting wern't legal then some psychos would hunt PPL! wait...that already happens. IDK C) It gives people something to do
