To stay awake. Charlie Rose did an interview with Thomas E. Ricks--author of "Fiasco"--and Ricks mentioned that a lot of the generals barely get any sleep because of their responsibilities. He said one general, whose name escapes me (but it wasn't Patraeus), was running on coffee, tobacco dip, cigarettes, and cigars with almost no sleep. Basically running on fumes. Seems like an awful existence if you ask me.
Before I answer, I need to know what other kinds of generals you may have seen on video games and movies.
Cigar smokers are generally held to be arrogant, powerful, forceful.
It takes a lot of work to keep a cigar lit.
It's an affectation.

You're reading Do all military generals smoke cigar? I saw it on movies and video games alike, almost all of them smoke cigars. Why is that?
