you leave them alone. i dont believe in the bible and it really bothers me when people come to me trying to change my beliefs... if i can respect that you believe in it then please respect that i dont.

usually people feel very strongly about beliefs and its really hard to change their minds so i say just leave it as it is, you believe and i dont.

believe me i have heard alot of things about why i shoudl believe in the bible and such by my whole family but trust me it would have no affect.

would you change your beliefs just because i say something that kind of makes sense to you? no, so there you go.

    just what i think.

Presumably you yourself have some reason for believing that it is *not* handed down by man. If you can explain that to yourself, can you not explain it to them? If you cannot explain it to yourself, then you had better keep quiet - you aren't going to be able to explain it to them.

You can't really tell us anything.

In my experience, many of the people who make such an argument (myself included) are able and willing to counter any argument you could make in your attempt to 'prove' your side is correct.

And do NOT cite the Bible in any of your arguments as that is circular logic; never ask someone if they are lying if you want an honest answer.

It also seems that the majority of people I know of that feel that way are on notably high IQ (130+) and a little egotistical so be sure you can hold your own. Be prepared with certifiable facts or you will be shredded, and prepare to be insulted as NOBODY likes being told they are wrong.

The men were inspired by God. They wrote what God told them to write. He wouldn't have let someone write incorrect things or make up stuff.

Why would you need to convince them otherwise? Is there reason to believe that their faith in the Bible is somehow harming them, and you want to protect them from making such a bad error in judgement? Let them be.
Perhaps they should ask themselves the same questions. If they cannot answer them with a yes, they should let you be as well, right?

Personally, if I came across someone who didn't believe in the bible because it was handed down and written by man...

I'd ask them for more reasons why they don't believe.

I personally don't believe in the bible or in God, but if I were given more scientific evidence and proof.. I might be able to be persuaded otherwise.

But someone simply not believing it because it was written by man and handed down, that is a very small reason to not believe something.. and that doesn't prove that it isn't real at all?

They need way more reason than that to not believe in the Bible.

I dont tell anybody anything. People are allowed to believe whatever they want. No point trying to change or "convert" anyone. I believe in God but I keep that to myself.

I would ask them why that is a reason not to believe it. I am not saying here that anyone should or shouldn't believe the bible, but based on that logic, we should not believe any book in existence today.

Nothing, they are entitled to believe whatever they want to believe. It does not make them a better or a worse person than yourself. Don't worry about it.

I would tell them that I agree. That Constantine assembled the books of the bible in the fourth century and that he faked a convertion in order to maintain political control over his empire. I would also tell them that it's mostly crap except for the parts about what Jesus directly said, which are wonderful. I don't think you should kill anyone for picking up sticks on Saturday.

That's like saying that man cannot write anything that is true. We know that it is possible.

If someone doesn't believe that the teachings of the Bible are worth living by, this is their choice and I respect that. I personally accept the Bible as divinely inspired and a guide for my own life. I know that the technicalities in it are not historically accurate in all cases, but that does not change the underlying message of the book.

The bible is true because it is the Word of God. No other book in the history of man has been scrutinized as the Bible has. It does not contradict itself. If you anaylize it through history events, it can be corobirated through historical events from non-biblical historians. The original manuscripts were inspired by God through men. If you compare the oldest known manuscripts( the dead sea scrolls) and compare them to current copies of the manuscripts they are nearly identical. If you take the time to do research on the Bible you will find that even though it has has been copied thousands of times by man, the integrity of the originals has been maintained. Remember that in scripture God says that his Word can not be destroyed, and that is evidently true!

A mind is like a book, once it is closed you must open it to see what is out there.
