Help answer this question below.

Alot of people here on AB make such a big deal on people who write all caps...but why is it that they dont care when that same person is giving positive comments and giving them good ratings?

It isn't just an issue on Answerbag. It is an accepted convention on all internet forums that the use of all upper case letters is shouting and it is seen to be rude. This is why people ask you not to do it, although the ways that I've seen some people ask a writer not to use all caps has been even ruder on occasions. An entire paragraph written entirely in upper case is also less easy to read. As for the second part of the question, I'm afraid I have no idea.

- lowercase is whispering (lol)...what is the difference. i just think that if you feel that uppercase is rude than why not thinkis rude when you are getting good feedback and when you are being given +5. thank you for the answer. +5

When I see caps, it almost makes me think they are yelling at me. So it is distracting.

- yeah but when people see all caps with a +5 they dont seem to mind...why is caps considered yelling, why cant lower cases be considered whispering. its just a thing about personal style...i think its silly. *read my comment for john pennington...its wrong. anyways thank you for answering, i really mean that. +5

- It's just easier on the eyes and more proper (?) to type with the correct capitalizations and punctuations.

- People want positive comments and good ratings. You could write in Serbo-Croatian and they wouldn't care. Something can have a different connotation in different circumstances. (ie. A man can make the same flirtatious comment to two women. One is not offended because she is his girlfriend. The other is highly offended because she is not. Same action, different perception.)

- For the record I rate someone up or down depending on their answer. I don't care if THEY TYPE LIKE THIS or rite like dis. I do get annoyed however.

- yeah but its stupid because if something annoys you it wouldnt matter to you if you were getting good points...you could simply say, hey thanx for the points and comments but please dont write in all caps cuz it bothers me. its simple...to me that is being a two face...you dislike something then you dont mind when its praising you...thaa is what makes me keep on writing in all caps, people should make up their minds...im not talking about you so please dont take it that way,

In plain words, its really distracting when you are use to small letters and then suddendly here comes a question in all caps.

Its ok to use a word in all caps to emphasis for a meaning.

I wear glasses and it takes a second or two to adjust to all caps.

Its no big deal, i guess i am just getting older and an all cap question, just seems to smack me between the eyes.

This is a free forum, so i guess i will learn to conform for the good of the common cause.

- i have gotten downrated so many times by people who tell me i should not use all caps cuz its rude...i try explaining to them that that is my personal style but they dont care...thats why i experiment that. i gave those people who argued to me about caps and downrated me good comments on their answers and told them here +5 all in caps and they didnt seem to mind...they were very happy and even responded very nicely. i think that is just stupid and wrong...we're not here to judge no one...i dont do it and i dont want that done to me. anyways, thank you so much for answering, i appreciate that. +5
