External keyboard and mouse! I hate touchpads.
I prefer the keyboard in my Aspire One to any of the other keyboards I have ever owned. Despite my large hands, I have slender fingers and thus have no problem with teh *slightly* undersized keys, and the compact layout makes it much easier for me to type than on a full-sized keyboard.
There are a few things that an external scroll-mouse makes easier, but after configuring the Synaptics trackpad on my AA1, I have no issues with it. I can scroll fairly well both horizontally and vertically, and can click, double-click, or drag with either mouse-button without actually using the buttons on either side of my trackpad. Accordingly, I use the trackpad for *most* of my stuff. Of course, I can only do that on a Synaptics pad that is configured to my tastes; I am klutzy on any other trackpad.
I always use a wired mouse. I refuse to deal with the touchpad -- I disconnect it. I had an IBM laptop years ago that had a button in the center of the keyboard that controlled the pointer and buttons for clicking. That was tolerable in a pinch.
I will sometimes use a separate mouse if I need to work in Photoshop or something.
